Mini post: Local Feed - Georgetown, KY

Hey, Y'all! We're checking out a couple of cool places in Georgetown for #gtowneats week going on now through March 31st, and we thought we'd share these meals as mini-posts for the blog! The #gtowneats week features 16 of Georgetown's favorite restaurants, bars, and bakeries, all of which will have featured meals or drinks on their menus for a special price. On Sunday, Renee and I had dinner at Local Feed, a very neat farm-to-table restaurant in the downtown Georgetown area. Everything they serve is extremely fresh, from the seasonal vegetables all the way to the meat that is prepared almost as soon as it comes into the kitchen.

We tried almost everything on the featured menu for #gtowneats week, starting with the beer cheese appetizer made with Country Boy beer and served with freshly baked house crackers. The beer cheese was slightly spicy but very tasty, and those crackers were so fresh they were still warm when the plate came out to the table! I tried the featured entree, the Kentucky beef & spoon bread, which included a huge portion of tender beef flavored with shishito peppers, a large piece of spoon bread, and a side of carrots. This was almost like a roast beef dish; it was so flavorful, and the peppers really gave the meat a nice kick! I have to admit that I've never actually had spoon bread until now; it reminded me of a nice, thick cornbread, and a piece of that bread with some carrots and a slice of meat melted so nicely in my mouth - every bite was amazing! Renee had some of Local Feed's signature fried chicken, brined for three days before being breaded and fried up for our eating pleasure! She had the two-piece meal with a side of mashed potatoes and gravy, and let me tell you - they serve up an excellent fried chicken plate! Renee raved about how tender the meat was underneath the crispy breading, and the potatoes were super good as well! She let me try some of her chicken, and I have to say it's some of the best that I've ever had! I also tried the signature drink for the week, an Ale-8-One cocktail called the Satsum-8 Fizz; made with bourbon, gran gala liqueur, satsuma orange juice, Ale-8-One, and an egg white, this drink was very creamy - almost like drinking a creamsicle! Plus it has a pretty orange color, making it a fun cocktail to photograph! Somehow, we made room for dessert after eating all of the food that came with our entrees; Renee tried the featured dessert, which was a bourbon chocolate cake served with butterscotch ice cream, while I tried the hot fudge brownie with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. Both treats were very good if you're a fan of chocolate (I know some people aren't, and even though that's weird we won't judge them for it!); the bourbon chocolate cake definitely has a generous serving of bourbon, and it pairs very well with the butterscotch ice cream. The brownie was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, just the way I like it, and if you're not eating ice cream with your brownies then you're really missing out on the best thing ever! We saw several other items on the menu that we'd love to try, and the next time we visit Local Feed we're going to make sure we try as many of them as possible! If you're looking for a fancy meal in a cool environment then get on down to Local Feed; not only was it absolutely delicious, but all of this food is part of the regional meal for #gtowneats week, with an emphasis on all the local ingredients. It's a very charming little space, and we just know you're going to love it as much as we did!
