Confused Confections - Lexington, KY

I know you can't tell from the weather outside, but it's finally December here in the bluegrass and we couldn't be more excited! But don't let these balmy temperatures fool you; we're mere weeks away from Christmas, and we all need a little help when it comes to getting ready for that big family dinner. You may be asking yourself, "what kind of help do you suggest?" I'm glad you asked, because we here at Bluegrass Bourbon and Eats have the answer: leave all of your baking needs up to the fine folks over at Confused Confections Bakehouse, located on Clay Avenue in downtown Lexington.

A really neat geode cake on display inside the bakery; they have several other cakes on display as well.

Confused Confections Bakehouse offers a variety of baked goods for any occasion, whether you're looking for a batch of cookies for your holiday party or the wedding cake of your dreams. Everything you'll see from this local bakery is made from scratch at their downtown location, and their ingredients are locally sourced whenever possible. Most of their business is based on custom cake orders, and the bakers are very flexible and open to any ideas that you may have to create your perfect cake. Any flavor is possible when you order your custom cake, whether you're talking about frosting, filling, or the cake flavor itself. Special considerations are also available for customers with dietary restrictions, such as gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan options. Emails to the bakery are answered within 1 business day, and turnaround on your custom creation requires at least 1 week to make sure you get the best version of your culinary treat. Orders are taken on a first-come-first-serve basis, and if for any reason they can't accommodate your needs, you'll be referred to other local bakers in an effort to help other small business owners around town.

The world-famous curveball cookies, made of pure bliss!

Rachel Poynter, business manager/cake designer, refers to these macarons as "a chewy burst of deliciousness" and "two bites of happiness!"

But don't think that Confused Confections is all about cakes; they also specialize in all kinds of handheld goodies that'll make your taste buds pop out of your head! Cupcakes, macarons, brownies, specialty bars, fudge, and cookies round out the menu of yummy baked goods. Some popular handhelds are the macarons, which come in many different colors and flavors, and the various specialty bars, which come in s'mores and cookies & cream flavors, just to name a few. Then who can forget about their world-famous curveball cookies; I love these things! They're the sweet, salty, crunchy cookie that you never knew you needed; I could probably eat a dozen of these by myself and not think twice about it! The bakery does use several peanut and tree nut recipes, and while they can use a specially sterilized oven for nut-free items, they cannot guarantee a truly nut-free environment. Feel free to drop in and try any of these fabulous treats while you're out shopping or taking a nice afternoon stroll through downtown Lexington.
